March 25-28 update

Dear families,
In Language, while writing their own fables, students will be asked to combine different elements of texts (characters, setting, events, problem and resolution). In class, students are using graphic organizers to help generate ideas and plan their writing piece. I anticipate some excellent work ahead. Happy writing boys and girls!
All students should be working on completing Spelling list 22 activity pages for this Thursday.

In Math, we are starting Chapter 8. The grade 2 focus is on two-digit by two-digit addition and subtraction. The grade 3 lessons will surround exploring Area of various polygons.

In Social Studies, the grade 3 students will continue to explore the historical world of Pioneers in Canada.  This unit will focus on explaining how the early settlers valued, used and looked after natural resources; comparing aspects of life in early settler communities and present day communities; describing the major components of early settlement (education, blacksmith, church etc.) A project outline will be sent home after Easter.

The Grade 2 students will examine the properties of liquids and solids. Students will be conducting experiments with aims of understanding solids and liquids. They will be using scientific inquiry to witness changes in states of matter.  A science project outline will be sent home after the Easter break.

Important Reminders
- Read a text every night for 15 minutes. As you read, think about the narrative perspective, your opinion about certain events that take place in the story and the big idea/lesson of the text.
-2-minute math drill this Thursday

Have a great week!
