June 10-14th Update

Dear families,

Another eventful week begins inside room 202!  We are diligently preparing for our Spring Concert performance on June 13th. The students are very excited to perform their dance in front of their loved ones.

In Language Arts, we are finishing up our read aloud story of the Tale of Despereaux. The students will work on activities that correspond to this wonderful and adventurous story. They will also be writing a short paragraph about their urban maps (summarizing three factors that would entice someone to visit their city). For Spelling, both grades should be working on Spelling List 30 activity pages due this Friday (an extra day for a hectic week). The grade 2 students will have 15 list words (+2 bonus words from now until the end of June) as they prepare for grade 3. The bonus words are: legend and fraction.

In Mathematics, we are continuing to learn about fractions. Students will recognize fractions as parts of a whole and parts of a set. For example, a bag of 15 marbles can be the whole set with fractional parts for different colours, such as 5/15 are red. They will also learn how to identify and represent mixed fractions such as 3 and 1/2. Some important math words will be: fourth, fraction, half, quarter and third.

In Religion and Family Life, we will discuss the importance of making good choices and family commitments. Students will learn that a commitment is a responsibility that you try really hard to live up to. We have commitments at school, at home and in the work place.
